This spring, Andrew Nogal and four of his favorite colleagues came together to form the Chicago Wind Project (CWP), which is devoted to collaborating with composers, performing modern scores to a high degree of excellence, and pursuing inventive, creative performance opportunities as a wind quintet. CWP features flutist Constance Volk, oboist Andrew Nogal, clarinetist Katie Schoepflin Jimoh, bassoonist Ben Roidl-Ward, and hornist Matt Oliphant. The quintet has recorded music by Aaron Holloway-Nahum, Alex Nante, and Pierce Gradone, with release dates TBD.
Andrew and Ben also play – along with dynamite clarinetist Andy Hudson – in Ritual Action, a reed trio championing modern classics of the repertoire and commissioning daring new music for oboe, clarinet, and bassoon. Ben and the Andys assembled in 2017 as three Chicago-based alumni of the Lucerne Festival Academy, the training program founded by Pierre Boulez. Ritual Action is currently booking tour dates for the 2019-20 season. Download their info sheet and group bio here. Please email Andrew Nogal for details on presenting Ritual Action at your school, conservatory, or concert hall.
